Testimonials and character references are provided for public consideration to better define the character and purpose of the Founder and Bet Your Life Combative Fighting Skills System's Mission and its training
"Tim Stinson is the kind of student that I enjoy training. Now one of my certified Level 1 Reality-Based Personal Protection Instructors, Tim has an impressive background having provided security after Hurricane Katrina, doing contract missions in Afghanistan, and has spent years training in the martial arts. Taking what he already knew and for me to make him "Reality-Based" was simple. It's usually the guys who have been in real world conflict that are easiest to teach, and the ones who take to my system the fastest. When I trained Tim he was very humble about his skills, and yet he would not hesitate to tell people that what I was teaching was for their benefit. Tim also shared some of his experiences with his class when it related to a topic that I was covering, and could possibly save their life. I recommend anyone thinking about training with Tim to do it. He'll definitely keep it "Reality-Based."
Jim Wagner
"Father of the Reality-Based Movement"
Mr. Tim Stinson was employed as a security consultant to a contracting firm working directly for the British Army on Operation Herrick in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Tim is a robust, energetic individual who under the gruff exterior is an exceptionally intelligent, popular, hard working, and extraordinarily high standards of honour and integrity. Time and again he proved that his word was his bond. No request for assistance was ever turned down however small or large and he consistently went beyond what could be reasonably expected from him.
Tim is held in very high regard by the Corps of Royal Engineers personnel who worked with him, as well as the Officers and Soldiers of the Royal Gurkha Rifles and the Parachute Remiment. These units all benefited at times from Tim's experience and ethos as well as his generosity. The fact that the Gurkha's held a dinner for him shows how respected he was by this renowned band of characters.
It has been a pleasure to work with Tim and also to count him as a very close friend. Tim's constant reassuring presence was counted upon without fail in very exceptional circumstances.

The Bet Your Life course taught me how to gain advantage and take control of a bad situation. Tim and Bruce taught me to visualize how the situation may unfold and how to handle myself so that I am not caught off guard or surprised. The course can be set up to train those with no fighting skills to those with advanced fighting skills. The instructors are experienced with real life experiences that most people have never been in. Also, they are versed with traditional methods of defense as well as maneuvers that are unconventional, yet very effective and efficient. The knowledge gained from Tim and Bruce is extremely simple to implement and inflicts devastating damage in a short period of time. I definitely feel that if any situation comes up, whether it is with a knife, gun or an experienced fighter, I am prepared to hold my ground and escape the situation without being significantly injured. I strongly recommend this course to anyone interested in self defense or technical combat fighting as the instructors are extremely knowledgeable, professional, experienced and willing to teach as much as you are willing to learn.

Tim Stinson has been a lifelong friend to me; actually Tim is more of a Brother than a friend. I have known Tim since junior high school and even while growing up, Tim was always very adept at the art of personal protection. Having stood "shoulder to shoulder" with him on many occasions I can say that from personal experience. Tim and I served in the Marines together. During our tour in the Marines Tim honed those "personal protection" skills by learning and training in the art of Okinawan Karate. I had several opportunities to observe Tim in martial arts competitions and the intensity in which he brought to the mat was unparalleled by any of his competitors. Since leaving the marines, Tim's intensity continues into his daily workouts of several hours which he kept up even while serving in the searing heat of Afghanistan. Tim has constantly worked to improve his very distinctive style of personal protection which is a combination of street fighting and martial arts. This form of combative fighting allows individuals to be proficient in personal protection without working for years to achieve a certain level or "belt". After completing this course, individuals will become more aware of their surroundings, what weapons of opportunity are available to them as well as have the confidence to employ all the techniques that are taught to them and the ability to handle "real life" threat situations without hesitation. Having attended many protection courses in defensive tactics as a police officer, I am very impressed with the course Tim has designed as it allows even the least experienced in the art of personal protection to become proficient in these skills in short order. Tim has a drive that is infectous and a passion for training individuals that is unmatched by any instructor I have ever met. I highly recommend this course for security professionals, members of the military, law enforcement, executives and house wives. No one can have too many "personal protection skills". Tim and I have been through a lot together and I can honestly say that he is someone that I could always depend on regardless of the odds. I cant think of anyone I would want to watch my back more then Tim Stinson.

I am happy to provide Tim Stinson with a testimonial of credibility and reliability based on our time and experience together in the United States Marine Corps. I knew Tim for three years during our service with commands in North Carolina. During that time, he proved himself to be loyal, trustworthy and courageous in extreme and potentially dangerous situations. Tim is the kind of man who does not brag or swagger but does what he says he will do when he says he will do it despite the hazards and obstacles. It takes a unique person to be able to take the lessons learned from the military service, add to them through personal and professional development, and then apply them in a valuable way in a civilian setting. Tim Stinson has done just that. He is worthy of serious consideration for any kind of employment where his unique skills can be brought to bear.
Captain Dale A. Dye, USMC (Ret.)
I have known Tim Stinson for 32 years. We served in the United States Marine Corps as enlisted Marines, where we trained in Okinawan Karate an average of 4-6 hours per day, 6 days a week. Although I am much taller than Tim, he was able to best me almost every time that we fought. Our training was very traditional and extremely strenuous, and Tim continually excelled in the combative aspects of our martial art.
During our years together, I observed Tim in some of the most tense and life-threatening situations imaginable. His ability to remain calm during these intense combative moments are among some of the strongest memories I have of my Marine Corps service. Although we began our martial arts training at the same time, I was able to learn about situational awareness and the use of weapons of opportunity from Tim, that I used to great advantage during the remainder of my military career. I highly recommen Tim Stinson as an instructor who is able to impart his unique life experiences in a manner that will enable even the most timid individual to effectively protect themselves in a life or death situation. For military, law enforcement or security personnel, his ability to impart lessons of the street are without peer. Tim's common sense, no holds barred approach to self-defense is a result of a lifetime of practical experience that no traditional methodology can hope to replicate.
I trust Timothy Stinson with my life and can think of no one else more capable of instructing the fine art of reality based self-defense.

In 2006, I met Tim Stinson whilst providing security for a British Army Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan's Helmand Province. From the outset, I was impressed by his professionalism, integrity and above all, politeness. Over the course of six months, Tim worked closely with the Company of British Gurkhas in dominating the Area of Operations as well as conducting high-risk security checks of personnel and vehicles. His situational awareness and initiative proved vital in the provision of a successful security operation. Operations aside, Tim became a good friend to whom I would chat about the intensive fighting that the Gurhkas had been experiencing across the province and his counsel was always welcome and invariably humorous. It was a pleasure serving alongside him.

I have just completed Bet Your Life Combative Fighting Skills Level One training. I have never taken any martial arts training before but I feel that this course has given me skills and more importantly the mind set to defend myself should the need arise. Tim is a master in the "trade of fighting" but is also masterful at being able to teach his students. He is passionate about teaching and coaching and has the patience to insure that you learn the moves and skills necessary to defend yourself. The reality based training insures that if you are confronted by guns, knives or multiple attackers-you will know what to do to protect you and your family. The training is both physical and emotional-Tim teaches you how to think and condition your mind as well as your body. Whether you are an experienced fighter or a beginner, this course will teach you real world fighting techniques which are a mix of martial, military and personal fighting skills which Tim has honed to perfection over the years. The fighting technique taught is "battle hardened" through years of real world experiences on the street and in the field-no flash and dash moves, only the necessary powerful damaging strikes required to incapacitate the attackers. Various real life situations are rehearsed and practiced with fake knives, guns and other weapons-the school has all the necessary protective gear required for the reality based training.
Tim is a very personable individual who I enjoyed training with, his real life stories and humor are an added bonus to the skilled training I received. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking at improving their security situation.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr Tim Stinson whilst deployed on an operational tour of Afghanistan on which my Platoon was responsible for the close and general support of the Battle Group. As part of the general support role the Platoon was responsible for policing the British forces and those employed by or for the British military effort. This was quite a task considering it was also responsible for the intimate support of the Battle Group deployed onto the ground.
At this time Tim was responsible for the security of the largest civilian contractor on the camp and his clients fell into my area of operations. Without exception the security of Tim's camp and the conduct of the employees of his contractor was second to none. Whenever search operations were conducted, no matter how little notice given he was on hand to assist us and ensure that any processing or further action required was put into place without any delay. This was clearly due to Tim's professionalism and dedication to his work. His presence at regular force protection meetings reinforced this with his open and flexible approach to his work.
I personally have no hestiation stating that without Tim's unswerving commitment to the security of his camp and employees our job would have been a lot harder and precious resources would have been taken away from the main effort of reconstructing the war torn country.

Whilst serving as a Section Commander within 51 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers of the British Army I deployed to Southern Afghanistan in 2006. Having served in numerous theatres around the globe, the operations conducted during the tour of Operation Herrick 4 were more demanding than anything I had previously encountered.
Inherent to the nature of the operations was a need to work closely with non-governmental organizations. It was at this time that I frequently found myself working with Mr. Stinson, during security operations in Southern Helmand Province. Regardless of the task at hand, Mr. Stinson's tenacity, professionalism and ability to communicate were second to none. His standards were nothing short of what I would expect from the Paratroopers under my command. I completed my tour of duty with a deep and well deserved respect for Mr. Stinson and manner in which he carried out his work.

My name is Darren Sharuga and I am 43 years old. I enrolled in a Self Defense course put on by Tim Stinson in Calgary, Alberta, Canada called Bet Your Life Combative Fighting Skills System. Growing up I had taken Kung Fu and Karate. I learned more in way less time from Tim. It was way more fun too. I believe Tim is one of the best in the world in what he does and I feel blessed to have been able to attend his training seminar. I would highly recommend ANYBODY to check it out!

You have proven to be an invaluable asset to the overall effort to keep Camp Leatherneck safe for not only the Marines, but the civilians. Through your assistance and constant vigilance you helped facilitate operations, which supported the Force Protection mission on board Camp Leatherneck.
